Why Choose This Class?

I believe in a holistic learning style where learning happens beyond the classroom, and the classes are designed for the kids’ needs and interests. This is how the experience will look like in Urdu With Annie:

  1. Meeting the teacher in a friendly, inclusive, and interactive online environment. We thrive on this philosophy!
  2. Resources are provided to review outside class and for various class activities. While taking notes during class is helpful, we’ve done that work for the kids! All they need to do is: come to the class with a fresh mind and a smile to begin learning Urdu. They are free to make additional notes on the handouts I send.
  3. Conversational home assignments are given as needed. This enables the kids to continue practicing outside class and receive teacher’s feedback.
  4. Learning goals are clearly defined for each week, and shared at the beginning of each class. This helps in the kids being ready for the content coming next.
  5. To see progress, conversation activities and quizzes are conducted at various intervals throughout the course. These gamified quizzes are casual-style and allow learners to practice what they’ve learned in a friendly game style.

The goal is to empower the kids to hold Urdu conversations with confidence. Therefore, consistent and gradual pace is recommended to absorb and practice each week’s topics. While I recommend meeting once or twice a week, this frequency depends on the kids’ pace, comfort, availability, learning goals, prior familiarity with Urdu, and the learning progress.

Class Format

Each session meets live online via Zoom, so the kids can attend the classes from any part of the world and from the comfort of their own home.

Since the classes are conversational, each class is highly interactive. All kids are provided with a safe space to learn and practice Urdu speaking skills to gain comfort and confidence.

Kids are encouraged to attend the class from a quiet background and stay unmuted during the class to allow timely interaction with me. The teaching style caters to the personal needs while following a structured course curriculum designed for you.

All the lessons are taught by Annie Anjum, educator and co-founder at Urdu With Annie. I (Annie) have an experience of in-person teaching, mentoring, and counseling since 2013 in Pakistan, USA, and Canada. And I have been teaching online since June 2020 and has taught over 500 learners from more than 17 countries. Now, I teach Urdu Conversation full-time out of my passion to expand this beautiful language with a contemporary approach where learning is comfortable, practical, and fun.

Pricing

The classes are priced at $1 per minute plus a flat rate of $10 per learner per session. Therefore, the session price depends on the number of kids in the class, class duration, and the class frequency. This works as a subscription either paid weekly or monthly (4-weekly) as per the preference. You can unsubscribe any time.

At the time of enrollment, you pay the first week’s/month’s (as per the option you choose) amount. Each subsequent amount is charged before the next unpaid period when the classes begin.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

Over time, I understand that life happens. Things come up! To be fair to you and the other learners who might have booked your missed slot,

  • A minimum 48-hour notice is required to cancel a session with full refund
  • No refunds are issued if the session is missed or cancelled less than 48 hours before the session begins.

Pausing Subscription/Taking a Break

If the kids feel that they need to pause their Urdu learning journey, perhaps you are going on a family trip or just wish to take a break, I understand. Just email me to let me know with a one-week notice. Their subscription will be paused (or stopped, if they’d like to take a break of more than 2 months). And once they’re ready, confirm at least a week in advance if the same slot is available and continue right where they left at.

What my other learners are saying!

“Recently finished @urdulearninglab 6-weeks urdu conversation course for adults. I was hesitant to register because I am fiercely protective of family time on weekends and because I only speak my embarrassing grammatically-flawed Urdu with my mom and husband . But I reluctantly took the plunge for 1 hour per week and I am glad I did. The class was small enough to allow for a lot of interaction. The teacher @embracing.roots was enthusiastic and clear in her explanations and examples. The homework was simple (10 min to complete), yet very effective. I really enjoyed the Kahoot quizzes at the end of each class. We spent a lot of time on gendered nouns and past/present/future tense, which are the two areas I struggle most with. I also picked a lot of new vocabulary. Overall, it was awesome and I am one step closer to becoming fluent. Thanks @embracing.roots and @urdulearninglab”
