Do you want your child will absorb language skills through play and practical conversations? If so, this course is the perfect fit for your child!
Speaking Urdu with Shairu is a thoughtfully crafted subscription course designed to develop your child’s foundational conversation skills. Each week, we introduce and reinforce new vocabulary through engaging activities and games that are seamlessly woven into self-paced lessons. Your child will build confidence by learning through singing, games, and interactive activities with you and their companion, Shairu, the adventurous Urdu-learning lion.
Having worked extensively with this age group, I’ve seen firsthand how much more effective learning becomes when parents are involved. Children learn faster and retain more when their parents participate in their learning journey. With parents as partners, children can practice Urdu in a supportive and nurturing environment, making learning more enjoyable and impactful.
To facilitate this, the course provides guided conversation prompts for use outside of class and clear instructions within each lesson to guide your participation. By joining in the fun, you’ll help your child’s language skills flourish!
Course Structure:
The curriculum is designed to gradually build your child’s vocabulary and sentence structure skills over 20 weeks of structured lessons, followed by two review weeks in both modules. Lessons begin primarily in English, assuming little to no exposure to structured Urdu learning, and gradually transition to a bilingual format, making sure your child fully understands and feels comfortable following along.
Module 1 covers foundational topics such as counting from 1 to 30, learning colors, identifying animals and birds, and mastering everyday routine vocabulary. Children also explore the names of months, the four directions, and learn a special birthday song in Urdu.
Module 2 builds on this by introducing family relations, emotions, parts of the body, and parts of a leaf. It also includes vocabulary related to fruits, vegetables, and exercise, all taught through playful and engaging activities.
After completing both modules, your child will participate in two review weeks, followed by informal assessments over two weeks. Each lesson is gamified and interactive to ensure children are engaged and thriving. Weekly activities range from Show & Tell to scavenger hunts, Kahoot, and exclusive Urdu games created just for this course to provide the best gamified and hands-on learning experience.
If children follow the lessons continuously, they can complete the course within a year. However, they can also take breaks whenever needed, allowing them to learn at their own pace.
To accommodate young learners’ shorter attention spans, each lesson is designed with 30 minutes of instruction, divided into two parts with a 10-minute break in between. Please note, all lessons are pre-recorded to ensure the best learning experience for your little ones, allowing them to learn at their own pace. There are no live lessons in this course.
Weekly Lesson Components:
1. Guided Lesson Video:
Each week, you’ll receive a 40-minute recorded, interactive video that includes 30 minutes of teaching and a built-in 10-minute break. This setup is designed to cater to the short attention spans of young learners, allowing them to recharge between lessons.
Shairu, our beloved puppet, brings the lessons to life, making learning a joyful experience! The stories and games in each lesson are crafted to capture your child’s imagination while helping them build their Urdu vocabulary and sentence structures. The curriculum is carefully designed for this age group, ensuring that each lesson helps your child learn new vocabulary and develop the skills to construct their own sentences in Urdu. Lessons are presented as engaging stories or activities to keep your child engaged and entertained while learning essential Urdu vocabulary and conversational skills.
For parents, I’ve got you covered too! You’ll find clear instructions on how to use the lesson effectively, along with simple guided prompts to make completing the lesson a breeze. Your participation is encouraged, enhancing the learning experience for your child.
Note: Parents must join the learners during the lessons to unlock the full potential of this learning journey. By participating, you create a fun, supportive environment that boosts understanding and fuels progress. This involvement also fosters an immersive environment that promotes language acquisition and strengthens family bond.
2. Practice Tasks:
To ensure that learning extends beyond the class, practice tasks are provided for every week’s topic. These tailored practice tasks reinforce the week’s vocabulary and concepts, helping your child continue learning even after the lesson. Designed to be fun and hands-on, they allow your child to practice their Urdu skills with excitement. The practice tasks are intentionally kept short and sweet, making them easy to complete and integrate into your child’s weekly routine.
3. Feedback on Practice Tasks:
In this self-paced course, I stay personally connected with your child’s progress. When your child completes their practice tasks, you have the option to either submit them to me or keep them as a keepsake. If you choose to submit, I will review and provide personalized feedback. This means that for any submission made, each child receives one-on-one feedback, ensuring their unique learning needs are met.
Additionally, there are a few practice tasks (or assignments) marked as mandatory to track milestones. These mandatory tasks are essential for ongoing practice and for me to monitor your child’s progress as a teacher. This also allows you to watch your child’s confidence bloom with our supportive and individualized guidance.
4. Learner Progress Tracker:
To help track your child’s progress, you’ll receive a short, easy-to-fill progress tracker form each week. This allows me to closely monitor your child’s development and provide guidance as needed. You can use the tracker form to share any thoughts or feedback on the completed lesson, and I’ll get back to you if you require assistance.
5. Conversation Starter Prompts:
Each week, parents will receive conversation starter prompts that make it easy to incorporate Urdu into your daily routine, allowing for continuous, practical language practice at home.
Flexible Schedule:
Whether your family prefers a steady pace or taking breaks, this course is designed with flexibility in mind. If lessons are followed continuously, your child can complete the course in about a year. However, you can take breaks as needed. Simply pause and resume the course to fit your family’s schedule. Just let me know, and I’ll be here to assist!
Additionally, if your schedule is tight and you prefer to do lessons every two weeks, you can choose this option at enrollment or anytime along the way. You can switch between weekly and biweekly lessons as needed!

What my other learners are saying?
Annie is a wonderful and engaging teacher and we couldn’t be happier that we signed up our son for her class! He’s now continuing with the weekly conversation classes and we’ve signed up our older son as well. We’ve looked forever to try to find an Urdu conversation class and our kids are loving it!
Annie was an incredible teacher and knew how to keep the kids engaged and in conversation. I was impressed by her planning, communication and ability to engage with the kids. My son tends to be shy, but with Annie, he was actively participating and excited by the activities. She was exactly what we needed to introduce our son to Urdu language, interweaving cultural aspects as well. We hope to continue taking classes with Annie in the future!
